Overview

OtherWise is a discovery system designed to help people move from familiar interests into new knowledge domains. A Chrome extension surfaces suggestions from a semantic exploration engine.

How it works

I used keyword embeddings to balance relevance with novelty. Instead of only finding topics close to a user’s existing interests, the engine also suggests connections to less familiar areas.

Interactive topic-galaxy and trail views use PCA and UMAP to map discoveries and show how interests expand over time.
